Nabaad has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Independence House, marking the beginning of a new partnership aimed at advancing peace, democratic governance, climate resilience and civic participation.
The MoU was signed on February 12, 2026, as part of Nabaad’s strategy to strengthen collaboration with civil society organizations, and think thanks, to work toward a more peaceful, inclusive and climate-resilient future. Through this partnership, Nabaad and Independence House aim to combine their expertise, networks and resources to address some of the most pressing social, environmental and governance challenges in Somalia.
On behalf of Nabaad, Hamdi Mohamed Hassan, Programme Coordinator, signed the agreement, while on behalf of Independence House, Mohamed Adam signed the agreement. The signing reflects a shared commitment between the two institutions to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange and joint efforts in areas critical to Somalia’s development and stability.
Under the agreement, Nabaad and Independence House will collaborate across several key thematic areas, including climate, peace and security, recognizing the growing intersection between environmental challenges, conflict dynamics and community resilience. Both organizations organizations will work together to promote dialogue, and inclusive policies that support climate adaptation while strengthening peace and stability.
Another significant area of cooperation is rule of law and democratic governance. Through joint activities, policy engagement and public forums, the partnership aims to contribute to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting accountability and supporting inclusive governance processes.
The MoU also highlights civic participation and public engagement as a core focus. Both organizations recognize that sustainable development and democratic progress depend on active participation of citizens, particularly youth, and marginalized communities. Through this collaboration, Nabaad and Independence House plan to organize public forums, workshops and outreach activities designed to enhance civic awareness, and encourage meaningful public engagement in governance and policy discussions.
Additionally, the partnership will support joint research, advocacy and policy dialogue. By working together on research, policy analysis and advocacy, the two institutions aims to generate evidence-based insights that can inform policy decisions and contribute to constructive national conversations on governance, peacebuilding and resilience.
Speaking on the partnership, representatives from both organizations emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing complex social, environmental and governance challenges. The MoU provides a framework for coordinated action, knowledge sharing and joint programming that can contribute to long-term positive change. For Nabaad, the agreement represents an important step toward its vision of a peaceful, inclusive and climate-resilient future. Through collective action with fellow civil society organizations and think thanks, Nabaad continues to expand its efforts to promote peace, inclusion and climate resilience.
